“Clean” a Mac OS X Install

Have you ever wanted to give someone a fresh install of Mac OS X with all of the available updates installed, but still have the Setup assistant come up at boot, so they can setup their own user accounts?

There are ways to do it, but it’s normally a pretty manual process. That’s where Clean Install.app comes in.

With this simple AppleScript Application, you can install Mac OS X, other software and updates on a computer, and then -- while booted from a different volume -- force that system to show the startup assistant again.

This tool is very useful for service providers installing new Hard Drives in systems, or anyone who wants to sell their Mac.

Clean Install.app can be downloaded here. The application is completely written in AppleScript and can be edited, so feel free to make whatever customizations and modifications you want.

**** Important Note: The current version of the app (v0.3) Does not handle Multiple Volumes with the Same name very well, especially if the volume you’re cleaning has the same name as your startup volume. I’m working on a solution, and will post it when available. ****
